A New Friend at School

A New Friend at School

Last week, I started at a new school. I was super nervous because I didn’t know anyone, and the idea of meeting new people made me a little anxious. The night before, I packed my backpack, double-checking everything like ten times. My mom kept telling me not to worry, but, of course, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. What if no one talked to me?

On the first day, I walked into the classroom feeling a bit awkward. Everyone was chatting and laughing like they’d known each other forever. I didn’t know where to sit, so I just found a spot by the window and sat down quietly. I didn’t want to jump into any conversations because I wasn’t sure what to say.

When the teacher, Mrs. Clark, started the lesson, I tried to pay attention, but I kept wondering if I’d make any friends. At my old school, I had some close friends, and now it felt like starting all over again.

Lunchtime came, and I grabbed my sandwich and sat alone at a small table in the corner of the cafeteria. I was just watching other kids joke around and chat with each other. It made me feel a little lonely. I started to eat my sandwich slowly, hoping someone would talk to me.

Out of nowhere, this girl with brown hair and a big smile walked over. She seemed really nice and confident. “Hey! I’m Sarah,” she said with a big grin. “Do you wanna eat lunch with me and my friends?”

I was so happy! I smiled back and said, “Yeah, sure!” I quickly picked up my lunch tray and followed her to a table where a few other kids were sitting. They all seemed pretty friendly, and I started to relax.

Sarah and I hit it off right away. We talked about our favorite books—she’s into mystery novels, and I told her I love adventure stories. Then we started talking about music. Sarah plays the guitar, and I told her I’ve always wanted to learn. She even said she could teach me sometime, which was really cool.

We laughed and talked for the rest of lunch, and I couldn’t believe how easy it was to talk to her. She made me feel like I belonged, and her friends were awesome too.

Now, every day at lunch, Sarah and I sit together. We’ve even started hanging out after school and studying together sometimes. I’m so glad she came up to me that day, and I’m excited to see where our friendship goes from here!
